Whiteout Vol. 1 Definitive Edition

At the bottom of the world U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko is in exile, in a place where she hopes she can forget her past, however fate has other plans. The discovery of a body starts a murder hunt across the stark Antarctic landscape which turns out to be a very dangerous place indeed…

This is a new edition of what is one of Oni Press’ earliest and most popular books. It collects together the first 4 issues of the Whiteout mini-series into a new 6x9 inch trade paperback. As well as the new format, the book has been ‘re-mastered’ which presumably means the original artwork has been scanned and retouched from scratch. There’s also new cover art and an afterword by artist Steve Leiber.

A sequel, Whiteout, Vol. 2: Melt, is also available as a definitive edition having gone through the same re-mastering process as the original. There is also a film adaptation slated for release in 2009 with Kate Beckinsale in the lead.

Ghost World Special Edition

This is a new edition of Daniel Clowes’s classic comic about Enid and Rebecca, two teenage girls, and their adventures growing up in a nondescript American town. Enid is bitter and cynical, finding fault in everything and everyone, while Rebecca is quiet and reflective but prepared to engage with the world.

The original release weighs in at 80 pages which makes this 288 page extended hard cover edition very generous. There’s a lot of extra material covering the making of both the comic and the film (which is also excellent). Scripts, posters, merchandise, in fact pretty much everything you wanted to know about Ghost World with commentary from Clowes’s himself.

He’s also drawn some new strips and written a new introduction. If you don’t own it (or haven’t read it) now would seem the perfect opportunity to introduce yourself…
